New quarterly FOS data indicates PPI complaints set to double

The Financial Ombudsman Service’s (FOS) data for the first quarter of the financial year 2011/2012 has revealed that it received over 81,000 complaints – more than double the number received in the same period last year.

The FOS received 56,025 payment protection insurance complaints and 55% were resolved in favour of the customer.

In just three months the number of PPI complaints has already reached half of the previous year's 104,597 total. It has also exceeded all the complaints in 2009 when 49,196 were received which indicates the final figure could double for the second year in a row.

Lords Committee ‘unconvinced’ on FCA name and shame proposal

The House of Lords Financial Services Regulation Committee is unconvinced on the FCA’s name and shame plans as it branded the consultation an “abject failure” and urged if concerns have not been addressed in the regulator’s second consultation the proposals should not go ahead.
