Aviva trialling telematics app for private car insurance

Aviva has launched the test of a new pay-how-you-drive app on smartphones called - Aviva RateMyDrive – with the target of signing up 5,000 drivers.

The provider confirmed that by testing the app motorists could earn discounts of up to 20% on their insurance premiums.

The technology will monitor motorists taking part in the test for 200 miles, including acceleration, braking and cornering. The data will then be turned into an individual "score" to help determine the motorist's premium.

Aviva clarified that drivers with premiums currently between £200 and £400 could earn discounts of up to 10% and those with premiums above £400 could earn
