Aviva UK boss insists insurer is not a "sinking ship"

Aviva UK and Ireland chief executive Robin Spencer has insisted that the insurer is anything but a "sinking ship" despite today's announcement that it will be slashing 2,000 jobs across the group.

The insurer confirmed that the jobs will be cut across the UK, Europe and Asia over the next six months, equating to 6% of its global workforce. 

It maintained that the job losses are part of its programme to reduce expenses across the whole business, including substantial non-people related savings.
