The launch of the General Insurance Standards Council had the full support of the government. However, the GISC has a long way to go and it will need all the help it can get.

It was no courtesy visit that saw Treasury minister Stephen Timms
turn up at the official launch of the General Insurance Standards
Council.


He made it clear that he was there to provide government endorsement of
the self-regulatory initiative.


In his speech, he emphasised that there had been no deviation from
government policy since the day his predecessor, Helen Liddle, announced
that the Insurance Brokers Registration Council was being scrapped and
that the industry would be given the chance to
