The Financial Services Authority warned drivers to check their car
insurance after it discovered the unauthorised Sussex Insurance Services
had sold 18,000 policies. SIS is the subject of a Department of Trade and
Industry investigation. The Lloyd's market this July agreed to pay out
£45m holiday insurance claims following the collapse of The Management
Company, which went into liquidation amid allegations that it was selling
bogus policies under the Lloyd's name.
