Gordon Brown has announced his new Cabinet. Alistair Darling will become chancellor with David Miliband as foreign secretary. The home secretary role has been given to Jacqui Smith and the minister for health is Alan Johnson. Education has been split, with Ed Balls in charge of schools, children and families and John Denham responsible for innovation, universities and skills. Jack Straw is justice secretary and the new Commons leader is Harriet Harman. Des Browne retains his position in defence
