I wonder how many Professional Broking readers were aware of astatement issued by The Treasury recently in which Economic Secretary,
Patricia Hewitt, issued a veiled threat to the general insurance industry.
In her statement to the House of Commons, Ms Hewitt confirmed that "there
may be a future case for statutory regulation of general insurance
intermediaries".
She also confirmed that the Financial Services and Markets Bill contains a
provision which would enable the Treasury to specify
