Trouble at mill.

With the expansion of employee rights under the Labour government, businesses are more exposed than ever before to action by staff who believe they have been unfairly treated. Simon Threadgold reports.

Employees' rights are being expanded so quickly that small firms are
having trouble keeping pace. They simply do not have time to read all the
new legislation, but most are still not transferring their employment
risks to insurers.


To date, only around 5% of small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) have taken
out legal expenses cover. The rest still do not think their staff will
turn round and sue them. When it does happen, they are genuinely surprised
at being hit with legal bills.
