The British Insurance Brokers' Association is urging brokers to
remain members of the General Insurance Standards Council, despite the
fact it now has a shelf-life of only two years.


The European Parliament ruled at the end of November that any general
insurance sales must be regulated by a statutory body, according to the
Directive on Insurance Mediation.


In the UK, this means the Financial Services Authority will take over from
the GISC. The FSA will probably not take over until 2005, however, as
