More than 200 000 companies could face fines totalling £10bn, after failing arrange a stakeholder pension for staff by the 8 October deadline.
Only 147 000 of a potential 400 000 employers had designed a plan by August, according to figures released by the Association of British Insurers. All employers with five or more staff are now required to have a stakeholder pension plan, and those who have failed to meet the deadline face fines of up to £50 000 by the Occupational Pensions Regulatory
