Flood warning.

Despite the very real threat of flooding, too many business and householders in high risk areas are not taking adequate precautions. Shona Cronin looks at what risk management provisions can be put in place.

Last year, 21 people died in the UK as a result of flooding, with an
area the size of North Yorkshire being under water in October alone.


In April 1998, flooding caused £400m of insured and uninsured losses, and
the predictions are that global warming could exacerbate the problem with
wetter winters and more frequent storms.


The heavy losses caused by floods in Wales and the Midlands have alerted
the insurance industry to the potential threat that floods are likely to
pose in the UK in the future
