Critical illness insurance premiums can be reduced by as much as 50%
if policyholders are allowed to tailor-make their own cover, according to
income protection specialist Unum Provident.


The insurer has launched a product called Elixia 123, which allows
customers to choose one of three groups of risks.


Elixia's category one covers diseases such as invasive cancer and severe
strokes, which are life-threatening or result in major lifestyle
changes.


The second category covers conditions that impact
