Feeling under pressure.

New regulations designed to keep pressure equipment up to scratch have led to safety concerns in some quarters, though the effect on the insurance industry is not yet clear. Diane Smyth explains.

On 29 May 2002, the Pressure Equipment Regulations 1999 will come
into full effect after a four year introductory period. The regulations'
primary aim is to remove technical barriers to trading new pressure
equipment across the European Union. They therefore seek to harmonise each
country's laws regarding the design, manufacture, marking and inspection
of pressure equipment.
