The European Commission has sent out a consultation paper on "modernising Value Added Tax" obligations for financial services and insurances. The consultation will be completed by 9 June and, according to VAT expert Liza Drew at Deloitte, it will be between six months and a year before anything is introduced into law. She said: "There is a particularly wide exemption at the moment for insurance firms that outsource services such as claims."
