Alan O'Brien, partner at APN Insurance Services, died on 24 October2001 aged 43. Mr O'Brien joined Cornhill when he left school, then set up
APN with Paul Samways in 1984. APN grew to be a successful brokerage,
winning Broking Initiative of the Year at the British Insurance Awards in
1999. Mr O'Brien was also the charities representative of his local
insurance institute.
