The cost of commercial fire claims continues to rise with lossescosting business an average of £1.6m a day, according to the Association
of British Insurers. In 1998 fire damage claims cost insurers £600m, up
22% on the previous year, to their highest level since 1992. In the fourth
quarter of last year alone there were 25 large scale fires, each causing
