The Law Society has abandoned its mutual insurance scheme - theSolicitors Indemnity Fund - in favour of the open market, following a year
of intense debate.
The fund will be replaced by two options, one, allowing solicitors to
obtain professional indemnity insurance from a group scheme run by a
managing general agency, the other, insurance provided by a group of
approved insurers.
The MGA will be run by SIF staff, but will be underwritten in the open
