White-collar workers are taking up an increasing proportion of the contractors market. Diane Smyth reports on the changing face of the sector.

White-collar contractors are a growing aspect of UK employment, with
an estimated 1.6 million self-employed professionals now working in the
UK. Often involved in the IT industry - there are an estimated 60,000 IT
contractors - this new group has very different insurance needs to
traditional construction contractors.


Two companies have set up ventures insuring professional contractors in
the past two months; Dallas Kirkland, which provides liability cover for
professional contractors, and Link's
