Aon and Marsh offices in Ireland raided in competition investigation

The two brokers were visited by the European Commission which is investigating breaches of EU competition rules.

Aon and Marsh have both been visited by the European Commission and the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) as part of a European Commission investigation into competition in the haulage motor insurance market in Ireland.

The Irish Times reported that local brokers Campion Insurance and Wright Insurance were also raided as part of the probe.

Marsh confirmed that its office had been visited.

Ghost broker sentenced

A ghost broker has been sentenced to 12-months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months with a requirement to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, after selling two fraudulent motor insurance policies to unsuspecting members of the public.
