The ABI launches latest crack down on uninsured drivers
Honest motorists could see motor insurance costs cut by up to £500 million a year, as a result of hard - hitting proposals to crackdown on uninsured driving published today by the ABI (Association of British Insurers). The ABI is calling for a shake up in the detection of uninsured drivers and a wider range of tougher penalties, including the confiscation of vehicles from offenders.
Over 1 million drivers - at least 5% of UK motorists - are driving illegally without insurance. Accidents involving these drivers cost more than £500 million a year, adding up to 6% (£30 a year) to the insurance premiums paid by every honest motorist in the country.Safer, Cheaper, Legal. the ABI’s campaign against uninsured driving sets out the size of the problem, and why it must be tackled.
