Zenith appoints new CEO

Peter Austin has been appointed Zenith Insurance's new CEO by Jeff Mack, group CEO for Guardian Holdings (GHL), Zenith's parent company. His appointment will be effective starting in April.

Mr Austin has previously held having held a number of directorships and senior executive management positions within the insurance and reinsurance industries, including several roles within the GHL group in the United Kingdom and Trinidad & Tobago.

Derek Wiley, who has provided interim leadership and support to Zenith's management team, will leave the business on March 31st 2009. According to Mr Mack, "Derek's tenure allowed the company time to review our requirements for structure, leadership

Industry reacts to discount rate change

Insurance industry specialists have welcomed the government moving the personal injury discount rate to 0.5% with PwC calculating it will lower motor premiums by £50 on average.
