The Glasgow and Belfast insurance markets have reacted with surprise to the news that Norwich Union's (NU) head of trading for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Steve Kelly, has departed following an internal restructure.

A statement from NU said the restructure was a result of consolidation and argued there was less need for regional heads, as many brokers now dealt with the insurer centrally. However, brokers were shocked at the news, with some worrying about the future of their relationship with
