The head of Highway Retail has warned brokers to beware the expensive pitfalls of securing a high-page rank for their website on Google.

Paul Cosh, managing director of the motor insurer's retail division, said the error had cost the company around £20,000, but was eventually recouped from its internet marketing agency.

The search engine Google allows companies to pay for a sponsored link which is displayed at the top or side of the page when a combination of words like 'motor or insurance' is
