Norwich Union (NU)'s revolutionary 'pay-as-you-drive' scheme moved astep closer last month when the insurer signed a deal with Orange and IBMto provide the technology to support the project.

The project will see data collected from a telematic device in acustomer's car and an insurance premium calculated based on when, whereand how often the car is used.

NU believes the scheme, which has been pioneered in the US, will changethe way in which motor cover is sold in the future. It has chosen IBM
