Consolidation is the watchword for the independent broking market for the foreseeable future, according to the Insurance Age 2006 Top 100 Independent Brokers supplement.
Since last year, nine brokers have disappeared from the list, as a result of acquisitions, and the total number of brokers has also fallen. It has been predicted that by 2010, there will be some 2,500 brokers, compared with the current level of 3,750.
