Phillip West, a partner at London-based law firm Davies Lavery, hassaid the true cost of flooding to society is potentially very high,considering that a number of households and businesses may be underinsuredagainst floods.
He pointed out that the UK is one of only a handful of countriesthroughout the world where insurance companies provide flood cover to mosthomeowners.
"It was introduced in the UK in the 1960s following a Governmentcommitment to provide flood defences in areas at risk," Mr West
