Brokers have been warned that the consequences of falling foul of the Financial Services Authority (FSA) will be far more grave in light of recent comments made by the regulator's chief executive, Hector Sants.

In a speech given at a Reuters Newsmakers event, Mr Sants made it clear that principles-based regulation was on its way out and would be replaced by a much firmer approach that focused on the decision making of executives, dubbing the new approach 'outcomes-focused regulation'.
