Brokers could be facing an increase in their Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) levies following the Ombudsman's prediction that consumer complaints will soar in the 2009/10 financial year.

In its proposed budget, the Ombudsman forecast a 44% increase in the number of disputes in the coming year - a record of 165,000 complaints. This was in stark contrast to the 115,000 predicted complaints for this year.
