Aggregator surge could hamper insurers' IT

Software experts have raised concern that the growing popularity of comparison sites is causing IT troubles for UK insurance companies.

Phil Mann, principal consultant at software company Macro 4, said performance problems were being exposed in the ageing mainframe-based IT systems used by many companies.

"They can't always cope with the flood of automated requests for quotes coming in from comparison sites and we've come across a number of insurers that have experienced IT performance problems and soaring computer processing costs."
