Westfield absorbs tax increase and holds rates firm

Westfield Health has announced it will not immediately pass on the 1% rise in insurance premium tax (IPT) to policyholders - a decision set to cost the not-for-profit health insurance provider an estimated £530,000 per year.

Other key private medical insurers Simplyhealth and National Friendly said they were still evaluating the situation and would keep customers informed of any changes to their health plans.

Chief executive of Westfield, Jill Davies, said: "After careful consideration of the options available to us, we will not be increasing our prices straight away in response to this unwelcome tax increase.

"However, in future reviews of Westfield's cash plans, we will have to build any increase in the prevailing
