The Swinton Christmas shindig at the Waldorf saw the industry's great and good flock to quaff champagne and discuss the highs and lows of 2010.

Polly enjoyed a good old mingle, catching up with some old faces and being introduced to a few rather interesting ones. As the soiree progressed and squiffiness ensued, lips became loose and the really juicy stuff was divulged. One subject that had hit headlines just before the party was Amanda Blanc's departure from Towergate. Always a fave of Polly's, Amanda was the first female to be taken on as a regional underwriter at Commercial Union in 1989. Of course, Polly is too young to remember that

FSCS gives first insight on increasing levy to £394m

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme has indicated its levy for 2025/26 will rise to £394m from £265m this financial year as it cited having lower surpluses to carry forward and offset bills – a factor that has benefited brokers for two years in a row.
