Allianz Group has reported a 4.5% increase in its UK gross written premiums to €533m (£464.5m) in the first six months of 2011, up from €528m in the same period of 2010.

The insurer reported that the growth "resulted from a positive price effect of about 4.6% following tariff increases, particularly in our motor business.

"In addition, we continued to grow our private household business through further expansion of our distribution network."

Profits for the half year were stable at €49m.

The news came as the company released its global half year results showing a slight improvement in the combined operating ratio for the worldwide property and casualty division
