FOS reveals PPI complaints halved in H2 2011

Report highlights complaints against insolvency practitioners

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) received a total of 106,193 complaints between 1 July and 31 December 2011, and figures show that Barclays Bank was by far the biggest culprit in terms of payment protection insurance (PPI) complaints.

With 6,975 complaints lodged against it, Barclays received 30% more complaints than the next biggest offender, MBNA Europe, which received 5,377.

Consumers also made 4,257 PPI complaints against Lloyd’s TSB, and 2,813 against HSBC.

Of the insurance companies included in the data, Bedfordshire-based broker Norton Insurance Services was the most complained about, with 280 cases brought to the FOS.

Aviva was the subject of 265 PPI complaints, Allianz received 57, Axa UK 38, RSA and Groupama both
