XL Insurance takes lion's share of solicitors' PI market

XL Insurance underwrote the lion's share of solicitors' professional indemnity (PI) insurance for the 2012/13 period, the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has revealed.

The figures - which were collated from renewals completed at the end of September - showed XL taking the largest market share with 16.5% of the business underwritten.

Travelers Insurance and QBE International secured joint second with 10.9% while Zurich Insurance was in third with 8.9% of business.

Overall, the SRA figures showed that insurers had underwritten nearly £240m worth of business for solicitors in England and Wales.
