FSA regulatory inspections leap during 2012

Regulatory inspections of insurers for the first nine months of 2012 were up 38% on the total amount conducted for 2011, a survey has found.

Some 47 ‘Arrow' visits were clocked during 2012 to September 30, up on the 37 recorded for the whole of 2011, a study by law firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain (RPC) has identified. 

Specifically, while wholesale and commercial general insurers and reinsurers were inspected 13 times during 2011, this was up to 18 by the end of September last year.

According to RPC, Arrow visits are "in-depth regulatory probes of individual businesses".

Broker optimism on the up in fleet

Direct Commercial’s latest broker barometer has found 56% of brokers experienced difficulties in securing coverage for smaller fleets in the last quarter, a slight improvement from 60% earlier in the year.
