Sompo buys Endurance Specialty for £4.86bn

Global insurer Sompo Holidings will buy US-based casualty insurer Endurance Specialty Holdings for £4.86bn, it has been announced.

The deal is expected to close before the end of Sompo's current fiscal year of 31 March 2017, according to the company.

In a statement, Sompo said: "The aggregate consideration is JPY637.5bn (approximately US$6.3bn), which represents approximately a 40.3% premium to Endurance's closing share price on 3 October 2016 and approximately a 41.6% premium to the average

Industry reacts to discount rate change
