Covéa’s commercial lines director Simon Cooter took an unusual route into insurance, but he believes a broker-focused approach will pay dividends for the provider, as Caitlin Morrison reports

While it is difficult to find someone working in the insurance industry who actually set out in life with that aim, Simon Cooter's path into the market is a little stranger than most. The current commercial lines director at Covéa actually studied medicine at university.

"I just thought the course would be quite interesting," Cooter reveals.

Industry reacts to discount rate change

Insurance industry specialists have welcomed the government moving the personal injury discount rate to 0.5% with PwC calculating it will lower motor premiums by £50 on average.
