Norwich Union pays £58m in critical illness claims
Norwich Union paid out more than £58m to policyholders who claimed on their critical illness policies in the first half of 2008. This compared with £52m paid during the same period the previous year.
The insurer paid 813 critical illness (CI) claims, averaging just under £72,000 each. Of the total, 42 were children’s claims.
Cancer remained the most common reason to file, totalling 60% of claims in the first six months of the year. Other causes included heart attack (7.7%), stroke (6.9%), multiple sclerosis (6.6%), total permanent disability (5.9%), heart surgery (5.1%), and benign brain tumours (2.7%).
