I remember that in my teens, some 40 years ago, I was asked by my local institute to join a team in a joint debate with the local Law Society. The motion was that: 'The insurance profession is more important to the community than the legal profession.' We won easily, probably because we had more attendees, but this was one of the few times when I was able to promote our industry positively. Since then, all I seem to have done is justify and defend it.

When asked what we do for a living, we mutter
