UK insurance broker deals - mergers and acquisitions and management buy outs - are increasing this year, and are being accompanied by a steady growth in the demand for development capital. Francis de Zulueta offers his interpretation of the rapid changes

After the significant mergers and acquisitions (M&As) of a few years ago, there has been a lull in the predatory activities of the larger insurance broking groups. With the stock exchange in the doldrums and only now showing some signs of recovery, M&As and public flotations generally have slackened.

Some companies have even opted to go private, preferring the opportunity this gives them to take a longer term view of the strategy of the business compared to the short-termism that is the fashion
