Rent loss risk alert on standard leases

Landlords could face losses in rent payments because of "outdated" wording of online document

Thousands of landlords purchasing standard leases from a leading online legal document provider could be putting themselves at risk from water damage, brokers have been warned.

One broker, whose client's property has been rendered uninhabitable by water damage, has been involved in a dispute with Norwich Union (NU) and loss adjuster Cunningham Lindsey, which has refused to pay the client's claim for loss of rent.

According to the broker, Cunningham Lindsey cited a clause in the lease agreement
