Brokers cannot have failed to notice that many of the more established insurance companies have been shedding staff. First came the announcement that Royal & Sun Alliance was to cut 1,000 jobs - predicting that one third of those would come from the broking division. Then came the news that Axa would dispose of 200 jobs as it shut offices in Sheffield, Southampton, Maidstone, Cardiff and Carlisle.
