The entries in this category were described by the judges as being almost "too hard to choose from" due to the high standard of the applications received but the Schools Advisory Service came out on top

The Schools Advisory Service was set up in 1997 to respond to the growing needs of individual schools, which sought a more professional response to staff absence management.

Following accident or illness, teachers at maintained schools are entitled to receive up to six months full pay and a further six months half pay under their terms of employment. This means that replacement teachers can cost a school as much as £200 a day, so the additional financial exposure can be significant in the event
