Axa has seen two of its senior team leave the firm in quick succession, in apparently unrelated departures.

Following the sudden exit of chief executive Peter Hubbard, Mark Cliff, Axa's markets managing director, handed in his notice to take up the role of UK managing director at Fortis Insurance. An Axa spokesman said Mr Hubbard had left to "pursue other interests".
