Guildford-based insurer Allianz Cornhill was held back in the first quarter of the year with a poor personal lines combined ratio.

Allianz's first quarter results for 2006 show its personal lines' combined ratio worsened to 103.6% compared to 99% in the first quarter of 2005; its premium income fell to £62.6m (2005 Q1: £70.2m).

This marks a continuing trend for the insurer in personal lines, as its combined ratio last year in personal lines was 101.5% compared to 95.9% in 2004.
