Routes to Lloyd's.

For the provincial broker, access to Lloyd's has been, in the past, via a wholesale or guaranteeing broker. But Simon Threadgold says sweeping reforms have changed this.

Formerly a select club to which it was hard to gain direct entry,
Lloyd's is at last opening up to a far greater number of brokers. All UK
brokers who belong to the General Insurance Standards Council can now
become Lloyd's brokers, provided they meet Lloyd's accreditation
standards.


For most brokers, it is their first opportunity to gain direct access to
the market. The move follows last year's abolition of mandatory
guaranteeing for non-Lloyd's brokers.
