Business in the contracting sector is at last beginning to pick up, although insurance rates are not mirroring this improvement in performance yet, says David Fanning.

Prices in the small contractor and tradesman market have bottomed
out, says Tony Wright, assistant general manager at Norman Insurance, a
strengthening player in the sector. "Rates are not increasing yet," he
reports, "but insureds are renewing at something like last year's
premiums."


Norman is currently experiencing an expansion in its tradesmen's insurance
products, but Mr Wright says that is almost entirely due to a heightened
