Telephone watchdog OFTEL is under attack from Guardian Direct andHastings Direct regarding its proposals to bring existing six-digit
freephone numbers into line with new seven-digit freephone numbers, by the
addition of an extra digit. Both direct insurers are concerned that the
altering of their distinctive numbers could severely impede their future
profits and levels of public awareness.
