Safety in numbers.

Accountants' work may not be glamorous or seem dangerous, but they still need to know they can count on insurance cover against the high risks that some areas of the profession bring, says Simon Threadgold.

Television series seem to be full of doctors, lawyers and teachers,
but there are none featuring accountants. Counting other people's money
somehow lacks the potential for drama. But not all accountants roles are
safe and boring. Some of their activities are riskier than others and more
likely to produce claims under their professional indemnity cover.

Claims rarely arise from audit work, but when they do, they are usually
sizeable. Embezzlement or failure to uncover fraud are typical causes.
