Paul Dickson, managing director of Dickson Insurance Brokers, explains why he is happy to go it alone, choosing to maintain his independence rather than merge or acquire. Nicolle Farthing reports.

Paul Dickson, managing director of Dickson Insurance Brokers, set up
his company with two colleagues in 1986. DIB started life in offices
provided as a favour by a long-standing friend, who also became the
company's first commercial client. The brokerage has continued to focus on
commercial insurance, growing rapidly to reach a premium turnover of
£9m.
